The client is into developing social networking websites using ngerprint technology.

It aims to be one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and

information by using its portfolio of brands to dierentiate its content, services and

consumer products. The company's primary nancial goals are to maximize earnings

and cash ow and to allocate capital protability towards growth initiatives that will

drive long-term shareholder value.

Business challenges

The client was looking forward for a solution for a secure portal or gateway for

children aged between 4 and 18, free of the usual online pitfalls with embedded

parental controls. The portal should be a safe one for Internet surng and social

networking free from Internet predators. It should allow parents to have control

over what their children surf on the internet.

Solution

Liferay was used as a portal solution as it is an open source tool and it meets all the

business challenges. Furthermore, OpenFire chat server was used as it is also an

open source tool and it is built on Java. Novell's access manager with bio-metric

device was used to grant secure access to users. Spark is an Open Source,

cross-platform IM client with inbuilt support for group chat on the web / desktop.

Novell e-directory and LDAP were used to implement a single sign on feature.

Stratacache was used as a standard proxy server. We then built a mail portlet

wherein a user could view and send mails from dierent email providers. Dot Net

was then used to develop a client proxy. Web services were used to integrate Paypal

payment gateway.

Liferay Portal Server 5.1.1, Open Fire (Jabber Server), Spark 2.5.8, Apache 2.2 , Novel

Access Manager, Stratachache, Pay Pal, IMAP and MySQL 5.x.

Benefits

Members can customize their basic iDolphin portal, and allow them to add dierent

portlets, widgets, customized themes, etc. Most importantly, iDolphin is a safe

portal for Internet surng and social networking free from Internet predators.

Dolphin Secure allows parents to control where their children go on the Internet,
